I'd have to give the Terps the nod for having the best combined football-men's basketball programs (which, as far as I'm concerned, is college athletics) this season. The only serious contender would be Oregon. Even though the Ducks clearly had the far superior football team, Maryland gets my vote on the basis of a national championship in hoops versus an Elite Eight appearance for Oregon. And Oregon actually came into the Dance with a relatively low RPI, about 30 or so if memory serves.
The Miamuh Hurrigangstas had a chance to contend for this honor at the end of the basketball regular season, but a first round exit in the tourney killed whatever chance they might have had.
Btw, who'd've thunk we'd be talking about Maryland and Oregon as the premier college athletic programs in the country?
